Lydia Hoskins & Andrea Haubner, Extension Agents with UT/TSU Extension, Sullivan County, will be here to help people manage concerns about falls and increase physical activity. Matter of Balance is designed to benefit older adults concerned about falls, have sustained falls in the past, and/or are interested in improving balance, flexibility, and strength. Saturdays, June 11, 18, 25 | 9:00 – 10:15 am | Lounge

Lydia Hoskins, Extension Agent with UT/TSU Extension, Sullivan County, will teach practical skills for managing diabetes and each lesson will have a food demonstration to teach quick and healthy cooking techniques. Class is limited to 8-15 participants. $5.00 paid to the presenter on the 1st day of class. Sign-ups will begin on Wednesday, April 6 in the Front Office or by calling 423-392-8400.

Dr. Ashish Nathani, with ETSU Family Physicians of Kingsport, will be here to discuss what osteoporosis is, current screening guidelines, and treatments (e.g. Bisphosphonates, Calcium Supplements, and Vitamin D). He will also be discussing some risks of falls and how to avoid them. Sign-up in the Front Office or by calling 423-392-8400.

Representatives from Marsh Regional Blood Center will discuss what platelets are and the need for platelet donors in our region. Did you know platelets are the #1 needed product for our area and it helps our Chemotherapy patients predominantly? Morgan Smallman, Rehab Liasion RN/BSN with Encompass Health, will be here to discuss some educational resources on the prevalence of osteoporosis, risk factors, prevention, and treatment/management. She will also be discussing exercises that are safe and best for older adults, especially those who may have osteoporosis or are at high risk for osteoporosis. Every other 2nd Tuesday of the Month. This support group is for sleep disturbances, such as RLS, fibromyalgia, muscle pain, insomnia, and restlessness. Monday, June 6 | Woodshop

Every 1st Monday of the Month. If you are interested in working in the Woodshop, you must complete the Safety Orientation.

NOTE: We will be cleaning the shop every 1st Monday after the safety orientation and ask that all woodworkers come and help. 

The Woodshop will be closed for Summer Break from Monday, July 4 to Monday, July 18. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Every 3rd Thursday | 10:00 am – 12:00 pm | TNT Sportsplex

Anna Walters and Andy Wilson will be teaching a pickleball drills class, which will help improve advanced pickleball players’ skills and teach you the correct techniques of playing pickleball. Cost is free. Sign-up in the Front Office.

Thursdays & Fridays, June 2 – June 17 | 9:00 – 2:00 pm | Woodshop

Johnny Chandler and Ron Grooms will be teaching a 3-week class. Cost is $90, which covers all your materials; with $45.00 paid on the first day of class and the rest paid on the last day. This class will teach you how to use Lathes the correct and safe way. Class is limited to 5, with 3 needed for the class to take place. **

Friday, May 20 | 8:30 am | Linville Falls, Newland, NC | $8 for transportation

Linville Falls is a 1.7 mile loop trail located near Newland, NC that features a river and is rated as moderate. Be sure to wear your hiking boots and bring your walking stick and dress according to the weather. Everyone bring a bag lunch with something to drink, we will be eating in the park after the hike. Sign-up starts on Wednesday, April 13 in the Office.

Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and are sponsored by Nathaniel Young, Sales Manager with Brookdale Kingsport. We will need at least 12 to sign-up for the tournament to be played. Sign-ups will begin on Wednesday, July 13 in the Front Office or by calling 423-392-8400.
