Guitar Lessons will be held at the Senior Center on Wednesdays, January 10 – February 14 and Banjo lessons will be taught on Fridays, January 12 – February 16 in Room 303. Cost is $10 per class for members/ $15 per class for non-members, paid to instructor Calder Baker. Calder graduated from East Tennessee State University with his bachelor’s degree in Bluegrass/Old-Time/Country Music Studies in 2016. He played banjo in the university Bluegrass Pride Band and traveled extensively while in school performing and representing the Bluegrass/Old-Time/Country Music program. He has taught guitar and banjo to all ages and all skill levels since he was 15 years old. Calder started playing guitar in other musical genres such as Rock and Jazz when he was 9 years old. He started playing banjo and becoming interested in bluegrass when he was 13. Even though he studied mainly bluegrass in college, he’s still able to play and teach in those genres as well. Yoga Nidra will be cancelled until January due to the Holidays.
Yoga Nidra – Relaxation Techniques- will be offered on the 1st Tuesday of every month from 3:30pm-4:30pm in Room 302. The fee is free for members and $3 for non-members( paid at sign up). Paulette Byrd will lead a self-guided class. Please bring eye cover, pillow, and yoga mat to class. Nidra, meaning sleep, is a deep relaxation form of yoga, and a technique to awaken the connection between, body, mind, and soul. The practice is like a deep sleep while you are still awake. This ancient practice is becoming more popular as a form of meditation and mind-body therapy, and has multiple physical benefits.

A Beginning landscape painting in acrylic class will be held on Saturday, January 27 from 9:30 – 11:30am with Instructor: Anne Thwaites. No drawing or painting experience necessary! Students will learn basic acrylic paint handling, composition and color mixing by painting a two-hour session, start to finish landscape. The instructor will bring photos from which students can work, but they are also welcome to bring pictures of subject matter they’d like to paint, whether it’s a whole landscape, just clouds, or whatever. We can synthesize and compose our landscapes with elements from different sources. Students will be encouraged to focus mainly on sky, mountains, fields, rather than details like people, cars, birds, or animals. A house or a barn in the distance would work fine too. Cost is $30.00 for senior members and $40.00 for non-members. Sign up starts January 2. Supply list is available at sign up. Please sign up by January 19.
Electrical Code Classes (Commercial) will be held on Mondays, January 29 – March 26, 2018 in the cafeteria from 6:00 – 8:00pm. Cost is $75.00 payable at sign up that begins December 4. This class will concentrate on the 2011 edition of the National electrical code, covering such installations as health care facilities, hazardous locations, green energy, emergency systems and more. Please sign up by January 22.
Piloxing exercise classes are offered at the Senior Center in room 302 on Tuesday and Friday at 9:30am. Piloxing is a combination of Pilates and kickboxing type of exercises that gives you a great cardio workout. Cost is free for members, $2.00 non-members. Non-members can pay for 12 class sessions in the senior center office, we will give you a punch card that will be punched by the instructor for each class.
